Initial line drawing.

I wet the entire circle around the Peacock and laid in a light wash of Quinacridone Gold.

While the first wash was still wet I laid in a gradient wash of Scarlet Lake working with the board upside down at a slight angle I started with the strong red at the bottom of the circle and gradually faded back to the gold as I worked my way down.

Once the circle had dried completely I started painting the peacock head, neck and body with Quinacridone Red. I allowed that to dry a little bit then added Ultramarine Blue to start laying in the shadows. Once this dried I decided the circle background was too red so I added another wash of Quinacridone Gold. Next I started on the tail. To get the gradient wash I first wet the entire tail area (except the parts I wanted to to keep white) with clean water. I then dropped in Quinacridone Violet at the top and lightened the wash as I worked my way down. Part way down I overlapped that wash with Windsor Violet again getting lighter as I worked my way down and repeating this overlap as I started into Ultramarine and finally Cerulean Blue.

Sorry for the jump to completion, I got carried away filling in the tail feathers and creating the fish bones and forgot to stop and take progress photos. The original painting is now available for purchase, just click Shop on the menu bar and select "Original Paintings"
